What are the local cruise ports for someone coming from Las Vegas?
I live in Vegas and am looking for a cruise during Christmas for me for 5 other people. After my research, it looks like I can only locally port of of Santa Barbara, Long Beach, San Diego or Los Angeles, and the only cruises I can go on (for only 3-5 days) are Mexico or Hawaii. This is my first cruise, so I’m rather unsure…does this sound right? It sound like my options are pretty limited, but I could just be imputting wrong information…can someone give me some feedback?
Yes that is correct. I live in California, so I have the same choices as you. But I have been on 10 cruise and just know that most of the time to cruise requires a flight to another state or country. BTW, my 2 favorite cruises were LA to Hawaii round trip, and San Francisco to Alaska, round trip. So do consider either of these.
Since you will have to travel to the port anyway, why not look at ships leaving other ports, too? For a longer flight — such as to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale — you can have a much wider range of choices.
Yes those are your options unless you want to fly to like Florida or New York for better cruise options. I also live in California and had to fly to Florida to see the Caribbean for a 5 day cruise.
You won’t be going to Hawaii on a 3-5-day cruise – it takes that long just to get there from the West Coast ports. LA is going to be your port choice. And, you’ll only be able to do a limited-port cruise to Mexico in 3-5 days.
You really should do some research on cruising, since you’ve never cruised before. The “dilemma” you’re facing re ports is only the tip of the iceberg [so to speak] of what you’ll need to decide on when choosing a cruise. There are books at your library or bookstore that will help you get a good overview of what’s involved. Then you can narrow things down and then visit a travel agent to help you book.
Hi there- since you must travel to get to a port regardless, do some research, your options will open up enormously. Here’s a link to a map of U. S. ports to get you started: http://allthingscruise. com/cruise-research/cruise-departure-ports/
You can click into any of these ports for info on them, and then there’s a button that says “See cruises departing from this port”. If you click that, it will link you to another site and you can see options from any given port. (Like you can take a Caribbean cruise leaving from Galveston TX). Have fun!
