The most fun for all is carnival for a family there are many things to do for all age groups. And after looking at a lot of sights carnival also has the biggest state rooms. Do you know where you are going? Have fun and if you do carnival i think you wil have fun.
The most fun is just about any of them depending on what you want to do. They are all very similar really. Activities, ports of call and meals are about the same. Even most of the ports of call are very similar (St. Thomas is not that different from Ocho Rios Jamaica in many ways). If you have not been on a cruise before, I would not worry about what line to pick (since you would not be getting past passenger rates anyway) and instead focus on a few other factors.
Number 1 is price. You would want to pick the best price available for hte time you want to go. Prices will be higher around Christmas because it is a popular time to cruise.
Number 2 is location. You also have to consider where you want to leave from. I do not know where you live so I do not know if California ports, Texas ports, or Florida ports would be closer but see what ports are closest and see what lines go out of there.
The final decider would be where do they go. Each port of call has its own little fun things and I cannot say that any one is really all that much better than another. I have enjoyed almost all of the places I have been to. If it is a Caribbean cruise, they will all have scuba, snorkeling, historical tours, etc. Still, some of my favorites are Belize, Grand Cayman, Key West, Cozumel. I did not like the Eastern Caribbean too much.
The cheapest cruise line is probably Carnival most of the time. They want the first time cruisers because everyone likes their first cruise the best usually. A repeat customer will have more complaints. So that also means that Carnival ships are not always as nice nor is the crew as nice. Each ship and each trip will vary though and often you will have as much fun as you want to have. If you want to have a bad time, you will. Royal Caribbean is another entry level line but generally a little better than Carnival. A step up from Royal Caribbean is their sister line, Celebrity. A step up again is Holland America (owned by Carnival). Norweigian would be about equal with Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Princess would be about like Celebrity. Disney is absolutely the nicest but also the most expensive.
The ships are big but all that I have been on you have not really noticed it. They never seem too big and they have plenty to do. There are lots of shipboard activities and you get a newspaper each evening listing all the activities for the next day.
A great source for more information is www. cruisecritic. com. They have accurate reviews of ships and ports of call and a lot of discussion about things like you are asking.
