What are some essentials to pack on a river cruise?

Just wondering if anyone will be going on a Holland American Cruise this 2009 Christmas.

I’m thinking bout taking ym family on a disney cruise. Never been on a cruise, so am curious if you have to get off the boat when it dock. and if you do, plz give any suggestions on how to stay on a budget if you have to pay for things at the destination.

Were having a Family get-together on the Carnival Legend for christmas this year.
We have a total of 5 rooms. (10 adults, and 9 kids).
I will be flying in on Saturday morning and going to Busch Gardens later that day with my 3 kids (ages 9, 10, and 14)

My questions are:
1) what should we pack for the trip?
2) what should we bring on the plane? I heard theres not much room in the cabins, and I dont want things just sitting around not being used the whole week.
3) I heard the cabins are small, but exactly how small are they? were staying in a balcony room.
4) what christmas activities do they do? how are the kids groups/teen clubs?
5) is Busch Gardens worth the money or should we just find something else to do?
6) what will the temperature be like?
7) Were all bring one or two presents for each person (especially the kids) to open up christmas morning. I dont want my kids to see them, any advice on how to bring it on the ship and hide it?
